At Riviera Fishing Products we are aware that consumers are increasingly demanding with regards to the quality of the fish they eat and also the method in which their fish were caught. Many methods are considered to be damaging to our already depleted fish stocks or the sea environment. As a result of this fishermen are looking for ways to fish whilst causing minimal environmental impact. Traditional Hook and Line fishing is considered more sympathetic to the environment when compared to other fishing practices, such as trawls and dredges, and is considered a sustainable fishing method.

In 2008 a opportunity presented itself to design and build a Gurdy, Outrigger and Fish Stripper for local fishermen, which uses the hand lining technique. In addition to making the process easier and quicker it also improves yields.

Roger Lean, a qualified engineer, worked on the concept of the Icelandic fish stripper and considered that the design could be improved. He set out to devise a new version that was not so heavy or bulky and was suited to the Inshore Fisherman. As a result of this the Riviera Fish Stripper was born, and Roger established Riviera Fishing Products.
